Chèvre is the French word for goat, and Chèvre cheese is made entirely of goat's milk. Chèvre is more pronounced in flavour than cheese made with cow's milk, and is easily digested, a healthy alternative for persons with lactose intolerance. Goat's milk is lower in fat and cholesterol than cow's milk, and higher in calcium and Vitamins A & B. All Celebrity International goat's milk cheeses handled by Springbank Cheese are made with microbial enzymes, rather than animal rennet. Sea salt is added, which is beneficial for the health conscious person or Vegetarian because it has no iodine.
Chèvre can be used in a variety of ways:
- As an appetizer in bruschetta, salads, salad dressings, soups or served warm on French bread
- As an entrée in traditional pasta dishes, omelettes, pizza, vegetable or chicken, beef, pork or fish dishes, creamed into a potato dish or used as an ingredient for stuffing.
- As a dessert with fresh berries or any variety of fruit, cakes, cheesecake or squares.
